During 1998 Ian and Lorraine decided to formalize their many book related interests into SAGE Holdings. In January 2000, we formed Sage Old Books to better reflect what we do and this is the business which now operates.

Sage Old Books carries out traditional and modern bookbinding, concentrating on book restoration.

We are also proud of our quality, out of print, first edition books for sale and continue to increase this side of our business as we obtain more good stock. Books are being added to all our categories regularly.

See Our Online Bookshop for all our catalogues.

We are financial members of the Queensland Bookbinders' Guild and conduct workshops both for the Guild and privately. Ian is also Honorary Webmaster for the Guild.

Both avid readers, and having both studied Literature, we have been book collectors since childhood.

Lorraine is a fully qualified teacher, with Bachelor and Masters Degrees and special expertise in Literacy. She has 25 years' teaching experience and is a qualified tutor trainer and Education Adviser. Author of OK Literacy and many other educational aids , Lorraine is also a skilled craft worker and has developed new techniques for book repair, while embracing the traditional methods as well. Lorraine does most of our bookbinding at present. See this page for her collection of Spelling Bloopers.

Ian has had a varied career, from Assistant District Officer in Papua New Guinea, Private Investigator, farmer, nurseryman and store manager to IT manager and company director. He is the author of Tardrew - A history of the Tardrew family around the world , has some blacksmithing and wood and metal working skills, and infinite patience when it comes to cleaning books or repairing damage. Ian is a member of the Hakluyt Society and a former member of the Society of Genealogists , both in London. He subscribes to the electronic Journal for Maritime Research in London and is currently near completing a comprehensive biography of an Eighteenth Century British Admiral which he has been researching for more than 20 years.

We have been happily married since 1966 and have a loving son, daughter-in-law and three wonderful grand-sons whom we spend a lot of quality time with.
