Spam email and Sage Old Books - an explanation.

It has come to our attention that some people may be receiving email in our name which has not originated from us. The practice which allows this to happen without our knowledge is called Spoofing. It occurs when someone sends email using another person or company's email address as the Sender. Unfortunately, this ugly practice is becoming widespread and can give legitimate users of the internet a bad name.

A recent example we are aware of has been addressed from liands@sageold.com.au, although we have never used this address. This email carried an attachment which was probably a virus. Its origin was from another IP address, not ours. Now there are thousands of emails going out in our name with random names made up of meaningless numbers and letters. THEY ARE NOT FROM US!

Please be assured that we do not send unsolicited email from this site. Any email we do send will have a meaningful Subject line and will not have an attachment unless we have already been in touch with the recipient about the matter beforehand.

We have made every effort available to us to protect out email account from this type of abuse but our many requests to our ISP to edit our email SPF code have failed to gain any interest whatsoever. This is particularly disappointing as their stated attitude is: "We can't stop it, and if we tried we might block all your emails from being delivered". NOT GOOD ENOUGH, People! If you were fair dinkum about internet security you would have a team working on solving the problem, not hiding your heads in the sand about it.

One of the penalties we pay for having our own web site is that our email address is easily targeted by unscrupulous mass marketers and malicious vandals. We do not intend changing our email address in defeat but we do ask that if you receive email from us which you believe is spam, or contained a virus, please contact us by phone or, if you are comfortable with doing so, reply to the email and change the subject line to Buka Ripot . This will alert me to open the email to read your message. If you returned the email with its original Subject line it would normally be deleted unopened during my rigorous scanning and anti-virus processes.
